Francisco Preaching Award Application
Dr. Clyde T. Francisco served at Southern Seminary for thirty-six years as Professor of Old Testament Interpretation. His ministry was characterized by a zeal for teaching in the classroom and preaching in as many congregations as possible around the globe. In his own words, Dr. Francisco was a preacher who also taught. In honor of his service among the churches of the Southern Baptist Convention, the Francisco Award was endowed in 1973 for the purpose of encouraging students committed to the ministry of proclamation. Each year the Francisco Award recipient is granted a scholarship for one thousand dollars, and is invited to preach in a chapel service at the end of April. Students eligible for the award must be currently enrolled in a master’s degree program at Southern Seminary. A calling to the pastorate is required, and leadership ability is expected. All sermon entries are evaluated based on sound scriptural content, structure, and style, as reflected in a written manuscript and an audio recording. All materials for application should be submitted online by March 13, 2026.
